MARTHA ESCONDEUR

1957, Born in the rural town of Santa Lucia, Canelones, Uruguay

Self taught, gifted in the Arts of drawing, painting, sculpting, and stone carving, has been exhibiting her works since the early 70 th .

Since this period she has received many known prizes from critics, colleagues and clients around the world.

Known for her great ability working with human figure, she was summoned by an Italian School of Arts in Florence , where she demonstrated natural skills in working with clay, marble, alabaster and bronze.

She has been assigned official works in public areas as well as many in private collections, with over two thousand pieces created and sold.

Martha is the author of many family portraits ordered directly at private sessions or by photographs.

"I was born in Santa Lucia where they say the sun shines brighter.
When you feel a strong vocation one is lucky. Since young I knew how I would like to spend my time and my life.
 During all this time I worked nonstop between paints, plasters, marbles, feeling the sheer enthusiasm that continues until today.
Always thinking that the best painting or sculpture will be the next one.
This is my world, my studio, the long hours, mate nearby, and wonderful routine of every morning.
It was the human figure that caught my interest, seeking that inside of people that it is not always visible to the naked eye and communicating this to the viewer if not my work would be incomplete.
Something curious I would like to point out is that I always begin the face from the right iris, don´t ask me why, from that point on I feel the essence and it just flows.
 Since quite a long time I am enjoying the pleasure of modeling life size statues that even though are challenging and involve structures, multiple stages of work, and dedication, make me enjoy seeing these clay figures that seem to come alive.
Often anxiety overcomes, the relentless pursuit, the one that makes you lose sleep, until a new idea appears and then back to serenity.
But what I have clear, beyond the constant concern, is that for sure tomorrow morning I will be sitting on my red couch drinking mate and very please to start a new day."
